Mesopotamia Eats and Treats

Mesopotamia was full of good food and drinks. Whatever they ate was a Five Star meal for their social class.

In Mesopotamia they had a lot of resources for food. They harvested crops such as barley, wheat, rye, and grains. They also butchered animals like cows, pigs, and sheep. Fruits and vegetables were plants that they picked daily. The farmers picked cucumbers, carrots, and tomatoes. Hunting animals was a daily chore for all farmers. They were responsible for getting there family the meat at all the meals. Mesopotamia had many resources of food that they used daily. They hunted lions, leopards, deer, wild cattle, and birds. At least one of those animals were eaten daily. Mesopotamia got beef from cattle. The beef was stored in shacks. The landscape was part of getting all their food resources. But the landscape was not always how farmers wanted it to be.

Landscape in Mesopotamia was very ineffective when it came to growing or harvesting crops. The climate changed every once in awhile when they were not expecting it.   It got too cold and then too hot. Another thing that was very ineffective was it was to dry. Where they grew crops got no water. The dirt was also very dry. Also they had a lot of flooding around there area. The water came from the snow on the mountains. In the ditches by their crops stood a lot of water. That also came from the mountains. The water always evaporated so quickly. Social classes were apart of the landscape because if you did not have a lot of money, you did not get good land.

The menus of the social classes of people were the same because they all had beer and water. Beer was very important in Mesopotamia. Third class worked the hardest and they got less food. The king who decided who was in what social class was Gilgamesh of Uruk. The classes were separated by the money that they made. The Rulers class got all the good food. Such as meats and fish.

The rulers menu included many items. First the rulers and priests were in the first class. They got good cut meat and fish. They also had vegetable stew for the winter. The stew was most common for winter but was eaten in all seasons. Also, they had many fruits. They had grapes and tomatoes. They ate fruits a lot.  They drank grape wine, beer and water as there refreshments daily. The grape wine was mostly drank at festive events. Even though the first class got all the good foods and drinks, the middle class got just a little bit less.

The Middle class in Mesopotamia got good food. Corn was a popular vegetable. They harvested corn all the time. The Fishermen caught fish daily and they had that for supper. Meat was popular too. They hunted many animals for dinner. The lower class did not get a lot of food but whatever they got they were thankful for.

The lower class menu included many people and items. The slaves and farmers were the main people in the lower class. They had a lot of bread. They got bread from wheat that they harvested mostly by the hands. Corn was also very popular in their day. Many beans were eaten every day too. They ate beans and green beans. Beef was eaten by the lower class daily because that was all they had. They did not get very much food but whatever they got they were thankful for.

Mesopotamia foods were always good!! From breads to good cut meat the government was always sure that everybody ate. The main questions were the resources of food, the landscape, the social classes, the upper class, the middle class, and lower class. Mesopotamia is full of good food. You should try to make your own sometime.
